Neurosurgery Tasmania provides a state-wide neurosurgery service based on referrals from general and specialist medical practitioners from throughout Tasmania, for a wide variety of neurosurgical conditions.
The majority of patients will undergo a primary assessment consultation, which may be followed if required by further investigation, and which may lead, depending on the condition, to hospitalisation for definitive surgical treatment.
Not all neurosurgical conditions however require surgical intervention, and many are managed by monitoring.
Hospitalisation, if required, is usually at the Calvary Hospital, Lenah Valley Campus, which has a highly sophisticated Neurosurgery facility.
Certain conditions may require consultation with other disciplines (e.g. ENT, Oncology, Neurology, Radiation Oncology, Rehabilitation Medicine) for their optimal management, and Neurosurgery Tasmania consultants have strong interdisciplinary links to facilitate this.
